Having looked at the First World War we are going to look at some the most important social and political changes that occurred as a result of the war. The war had a huge impact on the future of Europe and even changed the map forever. Great Empires collapsed and were replaced by small independent states. The war ended the Austro-Hungarian Empire and brought Czechoslovakia into existence among others, it led to the end of the Ottoman and Russian Empires and the rise of extremist politics. It ushered in a period of extreme economic hardship and revolution, setting the scene for the world’s first Communist, Fascist and Nationalist Socialist systems of government. For your next few history lessons you are going to look at Bolsheviks and the Russian Revolution, the rise of Fascism in Italy and Nazism and the rise of Adolf Hitler.
